Like why would a non-Asian who probably has a very narrow idea of what being Asian is think that as a collective of millions of different types of people with heritages from all different countries from different regions (East, South, Southeast, Central, etc.) we have “Asian Privilege?”

Have these non-Asian people ever experienced the diaspora specific to different Asian peoples in different parts of the world, felt the disillusionment that has spanned generations from imperialist regimes like the Raj in India, Burma, Pakistan and Bangladesh or the Spanish in the Philippines, the crimes against humanity committed by western powers in Korea or Vietnam, or the horror of nuclear destruction in Japan? Do they understand the complex internal politics of China? Nepal? Bhutan? Can they even locate the countries of Laos or Cambodia on a fucking map, much less understand the struggles of their people?

Do they know that it’s been recorded that Southeast Asian students have the highest dropout rate in the country, or that Asian-American teenagers as a whole in the U.S. are bullied more than an any race? Do they understand that some of our parents had to wait years to get out of their home countries and risked death when coming to America, only to be ridiculed for their accents and treated like filth, or that they were university professors in their home countries and could only find work as cashiers at convenience stores when they came here? And the hardworking Asian individuals who have service occupations are still considered second-rate citizens? Do they know about the repulsive sex-tourism and abusive sweatshops in our countries that our exploited by the West? Do they understand that the relations between different Asian countries entail ongoing clashes between so many different ethnic groups that all have their unique appearances and customs, ones that are all lumped together and exoticized and appropriated by westerners? No, because when you say “Asian” privilege you’re implying that the entire continent of Asia is fucking homogenous and we have it easy because people think anime is cool and we’re all good at math and all Asian girls look like porcelain-skinned k-pop idols or some shit.

You throw the concept of “Asian Privilege” in our face as a guise for your own fucking racism—yeah, in case you weren’t aware, Asians do suffer racism from other groups of POC. If you believe in “Asian Privilege,” you’re just further maintaining a culture founded on white supremacy and are a piece of shit. Bye.
