it’s 2015 and I can’t believe that people still:

• repost art
  
• leave hateful tags/captions on art
  
• delete artist’s captions
• use art without credit
  

What is wrong with reposting art?!

hello! reposting is pretty terrible for the following reasons

• if the artist is on tumblr, you should support them by liking/reblogging their own post.
• it’s often done without credit.
• it’s often done with completely inaccurate captions. for example, a repost of this piece is floating around as an illustration ‘from a children’s book’, which is clearly not the case.
  
• it’s often a violation of the artist’s personal boundaries. take pixiv, for example, which has a rampant problem of people reposting art without permission from the artists despite pleas. it’s a matter of not respecting the artist’s wishes.
  if the artist wants to keep their work posted on one site/location, then you should respect them and put them first even if you really want to share the art. link to the original site or something instead of reposting the work.
  

if you really want to repost, please ask for permission. oftentimes the artist will already have a tumblr and point you to their own post, grant you permission, or decline. if they decline, do not repost.

artists are people too, please respect their boundaries when it comes to their work. it’s not ‘just art’ and you don’t get to do whatever you want because ‘it’s the internet’, it’s not your work and effort, it’s theirs. i don’t see why artists should be denied basic respect.
