just my hot take but.
there’s this weird trend in the zelda fandom where racism is essentially a fashion. a prime example of this would be the fanfic “zelda don’t be racist” (disclaimer: i don’t dislike this fic or anything, i’m just using it to showcase something) where making spicy jokes and poking fun at how zelda is racist towards the gerudo is fine. acceptable. people laugh and love this work. but they’re only okay with “racism” being called out when it’s fictional. it’s only okay if we criticize racism within the framework of the game.
you see the same thing with roleplayer bloggers on here. so many white folk play nabooru, ganondorf, gerudo OCs and try to imitate the way real life poc react to racism by responding to hylian characters’ thoughts or the muns’ headcanons with such laughably overdone reactions (ie. someone on here reacting to a headcanon about hylians ears being long by proceeding to talk down to the mun and act like they were so racist for this)
the feelings of real life poc are irrelevant tho. theory after theory will resurface of how zelda is a genocidal warlord, ganondorf is secretly the good guy trying to free his people from the reign of terror hylians have wrought against the gerudo, due to racism.
but how any of these tropes affect real people? unimportant. criticizing racism is only allowed if it’s the racism of fictional characters in a fictional setting. criticize the popular tropes employed by fanfic writers or artists in the zelda fandom, and you’ll be met with hostility or at best, silence.
