comic books pick and choose from chinese & most heavily japanese culture: weapons, arts, “aesthetics”, and they hand them over to white men and women. iron fist, daredevil, wolverine, psylocke. actual asian people are reduced to background roles: teachers, dead lovers, and borrowed bodies. props.

it’s fun to joke and imagine wolverine is actually japanese and not some white boy from canada, and lewis tan was never overlooked for danny rand, but it gets less and less funny. im not interested in debating this and why it matters, so save your breath.

even the people who agree with this post are inclined to be defensive of wolverine. the man is called “ronin” he has hundreds of stories where hes a lone samurai. the entirety of The Wolverine movie is about him playing white savior to his asian love interest (of which he has many). hes the x-men’s Expert in all things japanese. come on.
