Honestly I really do feel with each passing day that the US Government is actually on the brink of collapse, just not in the dramatic fashion that people imagine due to Hollywood depictions of political turmoil. However we are so far removed from the status quo established by previous generations that it seems less and less plausible that the government could simply return to any type of “Normality” after recent developments. 

Which becomes more apparent in that the Democratic Party is the only group actually working under the idea that a return is possible or desirable. Most remaining republicans have radicalized to a point that the very idea of the “Status Quo” of the latter 1900s has become intolerable to their sensibilities and desire for reactionary power-grabbing. 

Whatever happens from this point forward, the US Government is not going to be functionally recognizable as the same entity. Which is precisely why now is a critical moment to be organizing the left in preparation for the inevitable death throws of an empire which can (and will) fully embrace Fascists before it concedes anything substantial to the left.
