yellowmonday-deactivated2022120:

as long im being forced to think about things that make me want to shrivel up and die, im going to talk about how people treat mpreg. which is either as a fetish or joke, as if there aren’t real men who are pregnant and often ostracized and subject to legal and social discrimination because of it.

people enjoy writing mpreg as a Freak Kink and people enjoy making fun of mpreg fic as a Freak Kink because the idea of a man being pregnant is apparently sooo absurd and alien that it is simultaneously sexually arousing and hilarious. mpreg fic is a result of fetishization of trans anatomy. mpreg jokes are a result of the idea that a pregnant man is a man who is repugnant to normal people. and people talk about male pregnancy either coming from a place of fetishization, a place of humor, or a place of “yeah i know men can get pregnant!” with little regard to how both obsessive and dismissive/casual discussions like this are another fucking burden on trans mascs and trans men who ARE being hurt.

there is no discussion of the ongoing legal battles for trans fathers. no discussion of how society only values afab people depending on whether they are capable of bearing children or not, and how that is weaponized against how transition affects the viability of reproductive organs. there is no accountability for the pre-existing emotional toll that pregnancy can have on trans people and what discussions like this could add to it. there is NO accountability for how the popularization of mpreg fetishes and the normalization of mpreg jokes plays a role in how trans men perceive male pregnancy, how trans men perceive ourselves.

for a lot of trans people, pregnancy and male pregnancy are triggering topics. at the same time, male pregnancy IS something beautiful. with discussions about male pregnancy, i have rarely seen it treated either way, much less both ways, as it should be treated. there are people with no knowledge of the reality of trans male life who talk about it so obsessively, or so light-heartedly, or so crudely.

do we realize that trans men don’t have a lot of places to look for positive instances of trans pregnancy? speaking from experience, society lets us view male pregnancy in very few forms—a fetish (arousing or disgusting), a curiosity (cis obsession with genitals), a joke (ignorant and mocking), or an accident (very real fear for many transmascs!). actual positive instances are surrounded by legal battles, violent transphobia, ignorance, arguments over terminology and the validity of our existence, intercommunity discourse, and disgust.

this is a world where using the phrase “pregnant people” is controversial!!! it’s just!!! it’s tiring. i would like for people to think about the words they say and to think about the people they talk about as if they were real people. because there are real people reading these words, these fics or jokes, and being affected by them one way or another. like i would just like for people to think about what they’re doing. like i think you should not be allowed to talk about male pregnancy if you haven’t been exposed to a single account of a real pregnant trans person (x).

this isn’t a fetish or a joke or something you can pretend only exists in the realm of fiction. trans people are not your toys or hobbies or entertainment. these are real people you’re talking about. just use some critical thinking and have some respect
