tricktster:

This is neither legal nor morally sound advice, I am certainly not an authoritative source on the matter, and you should by no means do the thing i am about to tell you for basically infinite reasons.

That being said, it has come to my attention that in the United States of America a person cannot be found civally or criminally liabile for falsely imprisoning another person, so long the person who is being imprisoned is not harmed by the imprisonment and is never aware that they are imprisoned during the period of time that they are imprisoned.

now there’s a lot to unpack in that sentence, but the takeaway for all of you who live in america is really simple:

you are technically allowed to Truman Show another human, and as long as you don’t hurt him and you stop doing it before he catches you, there is basically nothing he can do about it.

There is technically nothing stopping you from indefinitely trapping a man in an elaborate simulation… as long as you never fuck it up.
